  • Driving to Whittier
    • Driving to Whittier has been possible sense the state modified the Alaska Railroad tunnel back in 2000. But it's still something that you need to plan out as this tunnel is shared between the general road traffic and the trains that service Whittier. So what does this mean? Well, when the trains are using this one lane tunnel, traffic is held at both ends to allow the train to pass. Also this tunnel as noted above is a one lane tunnel that allows traffic to flow only one direction at a time. It changes in direction every half hour to allow traffic to move in both directions. Be sure to allow extra time to allow for a possible delay from this minor stipulation.
