for lodging in Anchorage, Indian, Bird Point, or Girdwood. For RV’s, there are two government campgrounds
on the Portage Glacier Road and some overflow camping alternatives as well.

Whittier AK, a quaint seaside
town some 50 miles southeast of Anchorage along the Seward Highway. The town is accessed from the Portage Glacier
road and connected to main highway system through the 2½ mile long combined access tunnel shared by vehicles
and the Alaska Railroad. This route connects this picturesque seaside town located on the shores of Prince William
Sound to the Kenai Peninsula and the rest of Alaska. The tunnel opened to vehicle traffic on June 7, 2000 after
widespread demand from the people of Alaska. Today, residents of the state use this tunnel for access to the
outstanding fishing and vacation possibilities that can be accessed from the Whittier boat harbor.

Whittier, AK with a population of 271 people now receives a growing number of cruise ships from Princess Cruise line that stops here every summer.
